Beetlejuice JR. Comes to Life in NYC
This summer, the magic of musical theatre captivated 21 young performers from New York City as AhHa!Broadway unveiled its fifth annual Summer Musical Theatre Intensive with a delightful production of Beetlejuice JR.. Hosted in a professional theatre at the heart of the Theatre District, this camp provided kids aged 9 to 17 with a unique chance to dive deep into the art of theatre over a rigorous 60-hour period.
Mentorship from a Broadway Star
A highlight of the camp was a surprise visit from none other than Tamar Greene, who portrays George Washington in Hamilton. Greene inspired the campers by sharing his own audition experiences and emphasizing the importance of teamwork: “You have to listen to each other,” he advised, highlighting how collaboration shapes a successful performance. His journey from aspiring artist to Broadway star added a layer of inspiration for the eager performers.
Transformational Experiences for Young Talent
AhHa!Broadway's program doesn’t just focus on performance skills; it aims to nurture life skills and boost self-confidence. Heather Edwards, the Founder and CEO, stated, “In just two weeks, we see kids completely transformed.” Many participants had never stepped onto a stage before, making their achievements all the more remarkable. The emphasis on community and camaraderie among these young talents illustrates how theatre can bridge gaps and foster friendships.
Creating Futures Through Theatre
With plans to expand and introduce an academy-style program in the coming year, AhHa!Broadway continues to pave the way for artistic expression and personal growth. By opening doors to the arts, the camp creates a 'gateway to possibility' for young minds, fueling dreams and aspirations that extend well beyond the stage.
This initiative illustrates the profound impact of mentorship and creative arts on our youth, proving how performing arts can be an essential part of personal development. With continued support and engagement, the next generation of stars is set to shine brightly.
