CoSA's Cabaret Shines Brightly in Broadway San Diego Awards
The Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA) has achieved a remarkable accolade recently, with its production of Cabaret being named one of the top five musicals of the season by Broadway San Diego. This recognition is not only a testament to the talent showcased in the production but also highlights the dedication and hard work of students and faculty alike.
Bruno Dominguez, who enthralled audiences with his performance as the emcee, along with Katie Moreno, who brought Sally Bowles to life, were both honored as Top 10 Best Actor and Best Actress finalists. Their outstanding portrayals set the stage for what has been described as an extraordinary theatrical experience.
A Legacy of Excellence in Musical Theatre
This recognition marks CoSA's third nomination for Best Musical—a notable feat considering its rich history of excellence. Previously, the conservatory secured glory in 2014 with its production of Legally Blonde. Barbara Wolf, the director of CoSA’s Musical Theatre and Drama Conservatory, praised the entire team, including choreographers Gina Sorensen and Lauren Pym, for their dedication to making Cabaret a remarkable success.
Embracing Opportunities for Growth
For Katie Moreno, the role of Sally Bowles represented a significant opportunity for artistic growth. Expressing her gratitude, she stated, “I am beyond excited that the Broadway San Diego Awards team is giving me the opportunity to represent our school.” This sentiment resonates with many students at CoSA, who strive for excellence and seek to make their mark in the performing arts.
Upcoming Performance at Balboa Theatre
The full cast of Cabaret will showcase their talents at the Balboa Theatre on Sunday, May 25. This performance is pivotal as the winners of the Best Actor and Best Actress will advance to the prestigious “Jimmy” Awards in New York City, set to take place in June at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway. Bruno Dominguez expressed his excitement, stating, “I look forward to giving my all at the show!”
Why Is CoSA’s Achievement Important?
The recognition of CoSA’s Cabaret is not just an honor for the students; it reflects the importance of arts education in shaping young talents. With CoSA at the forefront of public arts education in San Diego, this achievement sends a powerful message about the value of dedication, creativity, and community support in nurturing the next generation of artists.
